Dogsled Express Closed for the Season!!!!

Unfortunately due to the lack of snow and warm weather we have had to close down for the season. We are suppose to get some weather in the next week but the snow amounts won’t allow us to reopen. Thanks to all of our faithful customers that kept calling back tying to fit in a spot when we did have snow. We had tons of phone calls, of people wanting to get booked just in case we had good snow conditions. WE will be in operation again next year, so with all the cancelations this season, I know we will be very busy next year. I will be blogging all year with fun stories and each week I will to a blog on one of our dogs so you can get to know them and give you an idea of what goes on in our kennel throughout the off season. Dogsled Express Trails have 27″ of new snow

Finally. It came in too deep for me to groom with my snowmobile and groomer so Thursday morning the 1st I will have the big groomer from the skipark go over the trail and we will be back in business. This should give us snow well into March. I’ll know more later whether we will have enough snow for the races on the weekend of the 17th and 18th. If we don’t have enough to put on the races at Deer Mountain, then we will be available to do tours that weekend.

It’s Snowing on Dogsled Express Trails

With the predicted snow amounts, we should have enough snow to reopen as of this Thursday. I will know more by tommorrow morning and will be grooming trails throughout Weds. If we don’t have enough snow at Deer Mountain for the dogsled races then we will be taking reservations for the weekend of March17-18. We will keep it all posted on our blog page.

Snow Coming to Dogsled ExpressTrails!!!!

Go figure. Now the weather predictors are calling for a large dumping of snow (up to 21″) Tuesday night! I guess we will have to wait and see. If the prediction holds I will be over at the trailhead Tuesday night grooming the trails so we can accomidate the school kids scheduled for Weds. and we will be back in business. I will keep the website posted as things develop.

Dogsled Express’s Trails out of Snow

Unfortunately, our trails have run out of snow. As far as I can see, there is no significant snow accumulating storms out there for at least the next 10 days. We are keeping our hopes up that there may be a storm out there that will give us the 12″ of fresh snow that we need to get going again.

It saddens us so that we have been having to cancel so many tours. Not only for the monetary end of it, ( only 10% of previous seasons),but because we haven’t been able to fullfil the dreams of those planning to go on a tour with us. One blessing that has happenned this year is that I have realized how much I enjoy giving tours. I miss the excitement of the kids and thier parents as the dogs get wound up when we begin putting thier harnesses on. I gave many short rides last weekend and one Dad kept carrying on how much the kids loved it and Mom was all excited of how fun it was. Dad said it was the most fun he has had with his kids at an outdoor adventure and can’t wait to come back next year for the full tour. Simply, it is moments like that, that make my heart soar with pride of the product we are producing for our clients. I can also see the pleasure it gives my canine children by the smiles on their faces!!

We will work hard this summer to stay above water so that when the snows return, we will be here waiting to serve you and yours. It is truely a love of the sport and the joy that it bring our customers that will keep me doing this as long as this aging body of mine can still do it. We missed seeing many our annual return customers and the many that we weren’t able meet due to the driest winter since possibly 1977!!!!

If you paid a deposit and cannot go on your scheduled tour this season, you can hold it over to next season or write me and I will send you a refund check.

Beautiful Trails For Dogsled Express Tours

We have 36″ of beautiful snow on our trails. This picture says it all. Come and enjoy the best that nature can offer powered by highly trained team of huskies. Thanks Beth, for the picture. They drove all the way from Ontario, CA (near Riverside) and said it was well worth the trip and want to return again to try the tandem sled. Hope to see you soon.

Dogsled Express’s Projected Openning

The weather forecast is calling for 10 to 14″‘s of snow Tuesday night and Wednesday, followed by some rain and then more snow. Tours should be available by the weekend of Jan 19th, 20th and 21st. To check the weather forecast at our trailhead go to skipark.com and click on more weather and after that page comes up click agin on more weather and you will get the 5 day forecast at the elevation and location of Dogsled Express’s Trailhead. Snow Coming to Dogsled Express Trails

Starting this Sunday it is predicted that we will start getting our long awaited snow. Tuesday is the first day of any accumulation and Weds. Thurs. Friday and Sat we have 60% chance of moisture. With the predicted temps I believe we will get the snow pack on our trail for being open for business by the weekend of the 19th on. We will know more as it nears and we get our predicted snow accumulations from NOAA on our trail location. (not the city of Mount Shasta…. being there is a major elevation difference.
