I was recently talking to an old houndsman, and we got on the subject of keeping the kennel clean of bacteria, fungus and viruses. He told me the easiest way he knew, was to evenly spread rock salt over the area were the dog has it’s pivot or runner area. Spray it down with hose water until all the rock salt melts into the ground. That should kill any nasties in the ground. He remembered having two dogs that had a slow bacteria eating away at the dog’s pads. After he did this procedure, he never had any problems again.
You should wipe your dog houses and traveling dog boxes with bleach at least once in the spring and once in the fall. Follow dilution directions on the bleach bottle and let the house or box fully dry before using again.*****I am not a vet. You will be trying these home remedies at your own risk.*****
