Unconditional Love

Unconditional Dog Love

Unconditional Dog Love

Recently we were asked to attend the SkiDazzle ski convention at the Cal Expo, Sacramento, CA, with our sleds and three of our favorite dogs.  Thousands of people attended and I never talked so much in all my life.  The most common things that I heard  from the spectators was how much smaller the dogs are and how they never take their eyes off of me.  I started to take notice of this and it really was evident that they are constantly aware of what I was doing and where I was at.  On my ride home I was contemplating  this and it hit me,  how dependant they are of me and how they have such an ability of unconditional love.  Then my thoughts wondered to what these dogs future would be without me.  To try and find homes for over 60 working dogs would be quite a feat.  I picture myself someday, due to my age, having to sell the business and keeping some of my favorites dog buddies for me to be able to enjoy the sport until I can no longer safely drive a dog team.

I guess where all this is leading is that I would like dog owners to take time to have a plan B in case, (God forbid) something should happen to you where you could no longer take care of your canine pal.  They give  unconditional love to you and we all need to do what we can to have a plan for their future in case you can no longer care for them.

If in case of your death I believe the dog should have the chance to visit your body for the last time so that dog can move on, not thinking that you just abandoned them.  When I think of my time to passing on, I know my family and freinds over time will adjust but it will be my canine kids that I will worry for. Although I will be looking forward to visiting all my canine pals that had passed before me. Our legs  will be fresh as they were in our youth and the trails will be fast and beautiful.

Hi Pat, I’ve just found your web site and realized that we are in the same state and relatively close. My best friend, Margie, is visiting in a few weeks from Boston and its her birthday . It is funny but when Kay and her husband were here a few years ago Margie was also here and we all went out to dinner together. Since I took some time off from work while Margie was here , I thought that maybe we could do something special for her birthday. I thought that a dog sled ride would be perfect for a special gift for my friend. Neither of us have done it before. It sounds like an adventure for us city girls . I know that she hasn’t done it before. Is it possible that we could come up ? What is the nearest town? I was just in Minnesota for Mike’s 60th, I didn’t realized that Eileen turned 60 in January too. I am next year. So I am being very respectful. It sounds like that you have found your calling. I am happy for you. I will talk to Margie and see it she is interested in a side trip up north. If not , I will try to arrange a visit by myself or with my husband or my son Mark who is moving to northern CA if he is accepted for a fellowship in Physical Therapy in Redwood City, Your cousin, Pat Neaton
