Kids Free Dogsled Rides Day Huge Success

kids in sled Yesturday, the 19th we had a large turnout of kids for our Free Kids Dogsled Rides Day.  Over 85 kids got to experience the excitement of a real dogsled ride.  Dogsled Express is honored to present this special event in conjuctions with the Siskiyou Snow Dogs Sporting Association,www.siskiyousleddograces.com.  Volunteers from the Snow Dogs, Yreka Kiwanis(sponsers of the event),  Yreka YMCA Kids,  and the Strawberry Valley 4H Kids all helped to make this happen.   Also the Mount Shasta Ski Park for cleaning the parking lot.  We couldn’t have done it without the help of Trevor Mitchell and Rick Cook’s help handling and driving  dog  teams.  We had parents who drove as far as Burney for their kids to enjoy the thrill of the dogs.

It truely is a joy to see faces of the kids and hear the screams as they take off at the start.  Often the kids would giggle with excitement the whole way around the loop.  It is the purest form of the sport.  Happy dogs and happy kids.

The event also gives Dogsled Express the opportunity to give back to the community and to help enhance the Siskiyou Snow Dog Sporting Association’s goals of educating the public of the sport of dog mushing.  This was or fifth year of working together to giving free rides to over 500 kids who might not have otherwise had the chance.  We are looking foward to next year.   Check out the Siskiyou Snow Dogs  new website in construction at www.siskiyousleddograces.com for updated details of the races coming up Jan. 22 through 24.  Please consider supporting the Snow Dogs by buying a beautifully desinged t-shirt at the races or call me for the locations they are onsale.

Our reservated trips really get busy starting this Tuesday.  Since we have no reservations for today and the forcast for rain through noon today with snow and high winds this afternoon, we will not be open today(Sunday).

We are suppose to get between 8″ to 20″ of fresh snow by Tuesday morning!  Perfect conditions for the start of our busy Holiday Season. Sunny and partly cloudy midweek with winter wonderland snow showers by late week and weekend.  There are some time slots open yet for the Holidays(check reservations page), so bring your camera for the pictures of a lifetime.
