The Dogs

About the Dogs

There is no other athlete that can compare to the sled dog. When trained and maintained properly these dogs can travel over 100 miles per day for days!

Dog care, dog care, dog care is what it is all about. A dog can consume 10,000 to 14,000 calories a day when competing. The musher must learn to maintain his or her dogs externally, internally and mentally.  Happy dogs are traveling dogs.  Mushers breed and train their dogs specifically for certain lengths and types of races. Training starts in August and continues through the winter until the end of  May. It is a 24 hour a day/ 7 days a week/ 365 days a year job.  My team and I won the 225 mile Cascade Quest’s prestigious veterinarians’ award for “Best Kept Team”.  So feel free to ask me about dog care for your husky or your couch companion.
