Sled Dog Powered Cart Rides coming to Mount Shasta, Oct. 2015

DSC01058DSC01099Dogsled Express is very excited to announce that starting in Oct. of 2015 we are adding a new adventure to the Mount Shasta area. Sled dog powered dry land cart rides, only 5 minutes from downtown Mount Shasta! Experience the same excitement and power that winter sled dog rides offer, without the cold. The very reasonable cost makes it affordable to most for the approx. 25 minute ride. Our custom built (Arctis) cart gives a very secure and smooth ride while at the same time allowing the driver the opportunity to go as fast as the riders are comfortable with. Cost will be $25 for adults and $20 for kids under 10 years of age and under 100 lbs. If you have a group of 10 or more, kids prices are reduced to only $15!

The trail start out running through a tree plantation, then a wonderful stand of timber onto a smooth road, an exciting turnaround loop and back to the start with great views and photo opportunities of the dogs with our beautiful Mount Shasta in the background.

Folks of all ages enjoy the sheer power and excitement of the dogs. These rides are perfect for groups like church outings, group adventures, Boy and Girl Scout events, family fun time, and much more. We encourage passengers to share love with the dogs after the ride. Pat will either talk about his mushing experiences or if you want, just enjoy the quiet of the dogs on the trail doing want they love most……….running and sharing time with you. For more info, please go to our Page on Dog cart rides. (being built)

Fun times with Dogsled Express Cart Rides, only 5 minutes from downtown Mount Shasta!

This is a comment from a recent Dogsled Express Client that I thought I should share.

We really enjoyed our sledgog cart rides with Pat and his team during Memorial Day weekend. Our group people were from 13-year-old girl to 78 -year – old grandmother. Everyone was very happy with our unforgettable adventure.

We skipped our breakfast to start earlier for our rides. Dogs were so lovely. The cart was so fast on dry land with 12 dogs. Pat was sharing his dogs’ stories with us.

Thank you very much Pat and your team.

Can’t wait to start the cart rides next fall. We will be posting more info and pictures in the next couple of weeks. It is so fun!

Dog Powered Cart Rides……What a Blast

cart pictureDogsled Express moved into a new sport for us this last week and weekend. I traveled to La Pine Oregon to pick up our new cart custom built Arctis Dog Cart for giving rides powered by the dogs. Then I had a couple of days training with help of my dear friend Kassandra Spalding and we were giving rides this last weekend. The common theme from passengers was that the couldn’t believe how much more fun it was than expected. We even had a couple of teenagers say that! And you know what really surprised me was how much fun the dogs and I were having. The cart handles smoothly but you have to stay focused on the steering because it is so responsive.

The only bad part of the weekend was the temperatures started turning warm so we will be holding off on any more rides until sometime in early October. We will be working to get the word out of the exciting new outdoor family fun, the sport of dryland sled dog powered cart rides. I can already see how dryland cart rides will be perfect for kids birthday parties, boy and girl organizations, church activities etc. We are taking reservation for next fall so line up your  (troop) or family for a fun outing with us at any time. Follow procedure from our Reservation Page. There is no deposit for cart rides.

We can’t wait for fire season to be over and the temperatures drop again so we can give lots more cart rides.

This picture is a cart similar to ours except in color.  Ours is silver and red and has a full bench seat in the back with a captains chair up front. We will be posting pictures and videos of our  cart rides soon. Please spread the word to your friends.

All Systems Go for cart rides starting Memorial Day Weekend

We will be doing our final practice runs today, to getting ready to start giving cart rides Sat. the 23rd. Rides will most likely be done by noon because of the warmer temps.  We will be shutting down for the day when the temps start to get above 62 degrees, depending also upon the humidity.

Prices for the approx. 20 to 25 minute rides will be $20 per person. If you have a group of 10 or more, then kids (10yrs and younger and less than 100 pounds), will be reduced to $15. There is maximum weight of 300 lbs. in the cart.  Rides start by 8am. I believe we can be ready to do a ride about every 45 minutes to an hour, depending upon how many dogs need to be replaced by a fresher dogs. One adult and two kids or two midsized adults can go at one time, or two small adults and a small child. Four smaller kids may be able to go together. This cart is designed for kids and mid sized adults. Large folks(over 200 lbs.) are not suggested except maybe on slow days with cold weather, so we can take you out individually. We are working out on how much we can haul with how many dogs. We will be perfecting the logistics for a while, so please be patient so we can over time offer the best sled dog powered cart ride on the West Coast. As far as I know Dogsled Express will have the only solely, dog powered  (some use golf carts with engines) cart ride on the whole West Coast.  Which means we will be using large teams of 12 to 14 dogs on each ride!

Our location is only 5 minutes from the downtown intersection of the City of Mount Shasta! Just follow the Everett Memorial Highway  past the High School just over 1 mile.  We are located on the left side of the road by the big trailer and dogsled ride signs. You can’t miss it.

Reservations can be made by going to our Make Reservations Page on our website. Just follow directions and please fill  in the  # of people  interested and their weights. No deposit is needed for cart rides. Spontaneous rides are encouraged, so it is first come first served although reservations are priority. If you are late for your reservation and there are folks there ready to go, we will not wait on the reservation people. The reservation group will have to wait for the next available time slot.

Dogsled Express doesn’t provide helmets for riders so if you feel for you or your children then feel free to bring your own. Our insurance does not require passengers to wear a helmet or D/E to provide helmets.  All passengers are required to sign a Hazardous Release Form.  Parents and guardians must sign this form for minors. Small children must be accompanied by an adult.

Dogsled Express 2nd Winter That Wasn’t

Thank you so much for all the great tours we were able to put out during the last Holidays. It is such a shame to have so much business on the books and to have to call them back to tell them that all our expected snow came in the form of rains. NOAA is actually already calling for normal winter weather for 2015-2016. Normal temperatures and normal moisture. Wow….wouldn’t that be great. All gift certificates are good for three years after purchased. Also we will be staring cart rides during 2015 so if you want to use your gift certificate for that we will work out a comparable offer of 12 short rides for a winter tour trade. Anyone who mistakenly paid in full for a tour instead of a deposit can be refunded upon request or we will hold your $ over until the following winter so we can fulfill your desire to go on a winter tour with us. Thank you so much and keep watch for more info on our upcoming cart rides. Thank You….Pat

Dogsled Express Weather Update

I would like to say winter update, but I don’t know if we can call this winter. The unseasonably warm weather has us (myself and the dogs) in a state. The weather really doesn’t show much potential for snow up to Feb.10th and 11th. There is some moisture coming in before that but if we get the warmth that they are calling for, it will probably be in the form of rain. If you have a reservation between now and then you may be getting a call from me notifying you of cancellation. We may get a dumping on the 10th and 11th if the predicted temps hold.

With the crazy weather we are having of late, Dogsled Express is preparing to go with the flow and we have ordered the building of our new dryland sled dog cart. Hopefully it will be ready by this April and we are in process with the USFS to get our Dryland Special Use Permits. We will then be able to operate all spring and fall and maybe even into the summer, giving small and large groups short 2 mile rides, for $15 per person. The cart will be perfect for Birthday parties, Church Groups, Family Reunions, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Mushing Classes, and alike. Keep an eye on our website for more cart, sled dog rides info as we get near operation. Here is acart picture peek at the unit we will be getting. Ours will have a bench seat in the back where the seat is shown and an extended front end for a seat like the one show, in front of the bench seat. Could take two adults and two small children at one time. Rides will be by reservations and spontaneous drive ups. Dates of operation and locations will be posted on this website. Looking forward to our new addition and hope it helps us stay in business for years to come for both winter and summer tours.

Late Winter Predicted

This certainly is a strange weather pattern for the Mount Shasta area. We are hoping that the weather near the end of this month and the first week of Feb. will be a little cooler than predicted and we can get the snow we need to get back into operation.  It seems that we are having one of those late arrival for winter conditions. By mid Feb there is actually real winter conditions coming in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It has been years but we have had winters like this in the past where the winter weather comes in a month or more later in the season. From mid Feb., all the way at least through the end of Feb, Accuweather is showing winter weather conditions. So don’t give up on this winter season just yet. About six years ago we had 10ft’ of snow in March and a week later another 10 feet. We ran tours all the way through April! So lets keep our fingers crossed and hope they have it right. This could be some of the best spring conditions we have had in a long time. Please keep an eye on our blogs and we will keep you updated on predicted snow storms and when we feel we may be back open to serve you with an adventure of a lifetime.
